Serial Phishing Scammer Steals $1 Million Ethereum (ETH)

A phishing scammer going by the name “Monkey Drainer” has stolen around $1 million in ETH using suspicious fake NFT minting websites.

The scammer has been active for a few months and has already stolen more than $3.5 million from victims. They typically create fake websites that look like legitimate NFT minting platforms. Once a victim enters their wallet information on the fake website, the scammer steals their ETH.

Two recent victims, 0x02a and 0x626, lost a combined $370,000 to Monkey Drainer. The scammer also targeted the Astrobot society discord channel, the Fake Wolf Game, the Fake Aptos Airdrop, and the Bored Ape Yacht Club marketplace.

The Web3 security community Wallet Guard has noticed several other mint sites created by Monkey Drainer, including a fake garbage friends whitelist link.

If you are planning to mint an NFT, be sure to do your research and only use legitimate websites. Never enter your wallet information on a website that you are not familiar with.
