  • September 20th marks the international NFT day.
  • NFT market is expected to grow to $231 billion by the year 2023

A consortium of Web3 industry leaders launched NFT Day on September 20th, an annual occasion to raise awareness and educate the public about the value of blockchain-based experiences.

The first non-fungible token (NFT) was published on September 20, 2017, by Dete Shirley, Chief Technology Officer of Dapper Labs. NFTs are unique digital assets that cannot be replicated, and they have the potential to revolutionize the way we own and experience digital content.

“NFTs allow people to own a piece of social space, from virtual locations, music, fashion, and art – even individual moments representing significant cultural touchstones,” said Dieter Shirley, CTO at Dapper Labs. “NFT Day gives all creators an opportunity to tell that story together.”

The inaugural NFT Day celebrations brought together people from all over the world, with participation from blockchains, projects, and brands across the industry, including Coinbase NFT, Dapper Labs, Gaia, Flow, Cryptoslam!, a16z, Animoca Brands, LearnWeb3, Matrix World, Metaverse HQ, OpenSea, and Rarible.

To commemorate the occasion, NFT developers and projects across blockchain ecosystems held virtual and physical events. These events can be found on the NFT Day website, internationalnftday.org. The website also features resources to learn more about NFTs, including their history and how to start collecting or minting.

“We’re thrilled to be participating in the very first NFT Day,” said Whitney Steele, VP of Marketing at OpenSea, the world’s leading peer-to-peer marketplace for NFTs. “We believe that NFT technology is laying the foundation for vibrant new economies, and we’re excited to help more consumers, creators, and developers discover how they can receive greater value from Web3.”

NFT Day is a chance to celebrate the creativity and innovation of the NFT community, and to learn more about the potential of this new technology. It is also a day to reflect on the importance of digital ownership and the power of blockchain to create more secure and transparent systems.

If you are interested in learning more about NFTs, I encourage you to visit the NFT Day website or attend one of the many events that are being held around the world. Together, we can help to build a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
