China’s Red Date, Launches Payment Network Linking Stablecoins and CBDCs
- Red Date, a China state-backed blockchain service provider has launched a cross-border payment system named UDPN.
- The UDPN will allow international transactions to take place between two parties.
Red Date Technology, a Hong Kong-based blockchain service company, has launched a cross-border digital currency payment system called the Universal Digital Payments Network (UDPN). The UDPN aims to promote interoperability between stablecoins and Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs).
The UDPN is a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platform that allows enterprises from different countries to transact and settle in different cryptocurrencies. The system is designed to be more efficient and cost-effective than traditional cross-border payment systems.
The UDPN is similar to the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) network, which is used by banks to send and receive payments. However, the UDPN is specifically designed for cryptocurrencies and CBDCs.
The UDPN white paper states that the system will not work with decentralized cryptocurrencies and unregulated public blockchain coins such as Bitcoin (BTC). This is because the UDPN is designed to be a more secure and compliant payment system.
The UDPN is currently in the proof-of-concept stage, and it is being tested by several global top-tier banks. The banks involved in the testing include Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Standard Chartered, and the Bank of East Asia.
The UDPN is a significant development in the field of cross-border payments. The system has the potential to make it easier and cheaper for businesses to transact in cryptocurrencies and CBDCs. It is also a potential competitor to RippleNet, which is a similar cross-border payment system that uses XRP.
The launch of the UDPN is a sign of the growing interest in cryptocurrencies and CBDCs. As these technologies become more mainstream, it is likely that we will see more innovation in the field of cross-border payments.
