Astar Network’s Smart Contracts 2.0 Launches on April 6th, Providing Greater Flexibility to Developers

Estimated read time 2 min read
  • On April 6th, Astar Network will be the first Polkadot parachain to support a stable WASM environment by enabling ink! smart contracts.
  • One of the key features of Smart Contracts 2.0 is its modular architecture, which allows developers to choose and combine different components to suit their specific needs.

Astar Network to Launch Smart Contracts 2.0 on April 6th

Astar Network, a smart contract platform for multichain, announced on April 3rd that it will launch its Smart Contracts 2.0 on April 6th. The new smart contract platform will extend the Web3 functionality of EVM and support both Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and WASM VM smart contracts on the mainnet.

This upgrade makes Astar Network the first Polkadot parachain to support WASM by enabling “Ink Smart Contracts”. Ink! is a programming language for smart contracts that is compatible with several programming languages, including C, C++, JAVA, RUST, and GO. This makes it easier for developers to migrate existing dApps to Astar Network or build new ones from scratch without having to learn a new programming language.

To celebrate the launch of Smart Contracts 2.0, Astar Network is hosting a virtual celebration called WASM Launch Day on April 6th. The event will feature a live panel discussion with Astar’s founder Sota Watanabe, head of growth Maarten Henskens, and Polkadot engineers, to discuss how WASM can change blockchain.

About Astar Network

Astar Network is a Polkadot (DOT) parachain that provides the infrastructure for building dApps with EVM and WASM smart contracts. The network offers developers true interoperability with cross-consensus messaging (XCM) and a cross-virtual machine (XVM).

Astar Network also pioneered Build2Earn, a program that rewards developers for building on the network. Developers can earn $ASTR rewards through the dApp staking mechanism.

Conclusion

The launch of Smart Contracts 2.0 is a significant milestone for Astar Network and the Polkadot ecosystem. The new platform will make it easier for developers to build dApps on Astar Network and will help to boost the mainstream adoption of Polkadot.
