Ethereum Successfully Deploys Shanghai’s Shadow Fork- Here’s What to Expect

Estimated read time 2 min read
  • The shadow fork occurred at 10:40 coordinated universal time (5:40 a.m. ET), according to Parithosh Jayathi, the DevOps engineer at the Ethereum Foundation.
  • Ethereum users are one step closer to accessing the $26 billion worth of ETH staked with the world’s largest smart contract network.

Developers on the Ethereum blockchain have successfully deployed a shadow fork of the network, a key step in the preparations for the upcoming Shanghai upgrade.

The shadow fork, which took place on Monday, was a test of the upgrade’s code and functionality. It involved copying data from the main Ethereum blockchain to a smaller, experimental network. This allowed developers to test the upgrade in a controlled environment and identify any potential problems.

The shadow fork was successful, with only a few minor glitches reported. This is a positive sign for the Shanghai upgrade, which is scheduled to go live in March 2023.

The Shanghai upgrade is the first major development on Ethereum since the network’s transition from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism last year. The upgrade will introduce a number of new features, including:

  • The ability for stakers to withdraw their locked ETH.
  • A new gas limit, which will allow for more transactions per second.
  • Improvements to the network’s security and scalability.

The Shanghai upgrade is expected to make Ethereum more user-friendly and efficient. It could also lead to an increase in the demand for ETH, as more people use the network.

The successful deployment of the shadow fork is a significant milestone in the development of the Shanghai upgrade. It shows that the upgrade is on track and that it is ready for testing on the main Ethereum network.

The Shanghai upgrade is a major step forward for Ethereum. It will make the network more scalable, secure, and user-friendly. This could lead to increased adoption of Ethereum and a higher price for ETH.
